The last practice of the year and a few of our guys are out of town. I'll be heading out of town myself on the 22nd. There was a practice with White Kicks that I had asked many of our players to join. A few of us showed up. I decided to play goal. EVERYONE was surprised. I figured since 52, 72, and 95 weren't joining, it would be a great time to try without someone trying to decapitate me. BOY WAS IT HARD! Of course the equipment wasn't my size I have new found respect for the goalkeeper. My feet were killing me. Most likely because they were too big and too narrow for me. Either way, there's no real room for adjustment once it's on. You can adjust things but is it ever hard.
Just putting on the gear for the first time, I felt like an idiot. I figured you'll get used to it but I needed a lot of help trying to put it on. Standing in the crease all the time, backing up and trying not to move into the net, trying not to miss the sides of the net, keeping people out of your blue paint, not knowing exactly where the puck is when making a stop. All things I had to learn. There was a lot more while I was on the ice but I had my hands full. I did have a head shot (thanks #16) but it wasn't hard enough to make anything start ringing I'm very thankful that no one really tried to rip a new hole in me and they were very easy on me. The shots they took on 34, compared to the shots they took on me, you could DEFINITELY tell they were taking it easy on me. I had a few good saves here and there but nothing to write home about. I have a lot of faults but many said I go back into the crease too quickly and easily. I think I did that because I wasn't exactly sure where the net was. I did have a good glove save during the warm up drills but that was only warm up. It didn't count and no one really saw it. I wonder if #14 has a video of me. I'd like to see how I actually looked.
